earthquake in l'aquila, abruzzo, italy.

Currently, 150 people have been killed, 1,500 people are injured, and 50,000 people are homeless.

The Italian Red Cross has not yet contacted the Canadian Red Cross for assistance.

Unfortunately, 26 cities and towns around L'Aquila were struck by the quake including Onno anCastelnuovo.

L'Aquila is the capital of the Abruzzo region and is located about 110 km northeast of Rome. The city lies in a valley between the Appenine mountains.

Condolences have poured out from around the world including from U.S. President Barack Obama and Canada's Foreign Affairs minister Lawrence Cannon.

I have family in Villavallelonga, Abruzzo that is approximately 84 km away from L'Aquila. No one has been hurt here.

I also have family in Campobasso, Molise which is approximately 267 km away from L'Aquila. No one has been injured here either.

It was reported that people in Rome could feel the quake, proving that it was a big one.
